What readers have said about Treat Your Own Neck:

Yep, it works!

Sydney Padua ( London, UK), 25 Jul 2006

I waited about three months before reviewing this book, because I wanted to give the excercises time to pass or fail. Result: clear pass . From an old injury and long hours of computing and poor posture, I've spent YEARS enduring neck pain that went from chronic and bearable, to unpredicatable bouts of incapacitating. I've done the chiropractic thing on and off and the problem always recurred. I was ready to try pretty much anything when I ordered this book.
There's nothing instantaneous or mystical here, but three months later and there's a very clear reduction in the frequency and intensity of the chronic pain, and my neck hasn't 'gone out' in the whole time, despite things like 10-hour flights and 70-hour weeks. The excercises are logical, simple, and not time-consuming. Here's hoping another several months of this kind of progress and I need never deal with this 'pain in the neck' again!

What a relief!

I've worked at a desk most of my career and have suffered with an intermittent pain in my shoulder blade for the last two years. I bought this book on a recommendation from my GP and four weeks later I am almost pain free and I now know that I can control it. The book makes perfect sense and the exercises take only a couple of minutes a day. Well worth it.

Great Neck Book

A reader from Harrow, Middlesex United Kingdom, March 5, 2005

I have used the neck excercises in this book and I must say they have had a great positive long term effect on my neck. The exercises take minutes each day. I was recommended this book by a physio 2 years ago and have not had to see another physio since. Also, you can read the whole thing in about 1 hour so you really can not go wrong with it.

I wish I had read this book 20 years ago!

This book is an easy read, with easy to follow pictures of how to do the exercises, some of which are so simple that I can do them in my car while sitting at a stoplight. The book shows how to do about 5 exercises that not only relieve neck pain - they ward off future occurences of it. Also helpful was the photos of postures to avoid while sitting, driving, and sleeping - I didn't know how important that was. I also recommend "Treat Your Own Back", also by Robin A. McKenzie.

Incredible!

Susan Bilheimer, July 27, 2003

Your technique has been incredible for me. Previous to learning the McKenzie exercises, a neurologist said that the disc compression in my neck might need surgery and nothing would help. He was wrong!

Thanks!

I have had neck and shoulder pain for some time now. Physiotherapy provided some relief but I found by accident your excellent book "Treat Your Own Neck". I found it to be very helpful and easy to use. I found immediate assistance in loosening up my neck which of course provided respite from most of my headaches. While I am still using a physiotherapist I would like to thank you for publishing such a helpful guide.

THANK YOU!

Alan D. Ingham, USA, 2002

I purchased "Treat Your Own Neck" a week ago and started doing the simple exercises. I have suffered from 3 years of neck pain/headache hell.

Treatments have included muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatory drugs. I have seen numerous doctors, massage therapists, had MRI's, X-rays and CT scans. No one seemed to understand my problem.

I am a 47 year old male, very active in numerous exercise and fitness activities. (Cycling, Aerobics, Weights and Running) My job as a Graphic artist requires me to sit all day in front of a computer monitor.

After 3 days of Robin McKenzie exercises and posture adjustment I am feeling fantastic and am off the drugs. Thank You!!
I finally have the tools to understand and treat the problem.

Keep up the great work, you guys rule!

Tremendous Help

Elizabeth Perry, Christchurch, New Zealand, 2002

"Treat Your Own Neck" was such a tremendous help to me, and I realise now that it was the bad postural habits - when sitting or lying down, that have given me all this dreadful pain over the years.

Since reading your book, and correcting my posture, the pain has gone - so simple, it really is a great relief! Why couldn't the doctor, physio or osteopath tell me this!! Thank you for helping me so much.

No more pain!!!

Kevin & Leah Branch from North Carolina, March 24, 2002

After suffering about two weeks with severe disorienting neck pain a friend lent me this book and that same evening I began to experience relief and since then I have been able to ward off headaches and other neck pain just by doing the simple exercises in this book. It is time to return my friends book, so now I am buying my own copy!

Cured!!!!!!!!

Gregory Anderson from Canada, March 15, 2002

I have suffered from neck pain since elementary school, cracking of joints led to pain, led to mobility problems, led to severe pain, led to extreme pain in shoulder blades, lower back etc - it has interfered with training - even led to a rib dislocation. I have done physio, chiro, for over a year at a high cost in time and money - then I found this book.

It is not about strengthening but about doing stretches in the right way to increase flexibility and automatically realign yourself when you feel the need. I am now grappling and training with none of the previous pain, UFC here I come. Simple yet effective. Buy this book!

This book changed my life (really!)

A reader from Portland, USA, January 11, 2002

I'm a software developer and sit in front of a computer at least 8-10 hours per day. Literally for the last decade I have not had a day without some kind of pain, discomfort, or stiffness in my neck. I've just grown accustomed to the pain. After reading this short but sweet book (in less than 1/2 hour) and performing the simple excercises at least a few times per day, my neck feels 500% better. It's almost a miracle. If you have neck troubles, buy this book!

Works. A few pages and a few excercises but it helped

A reader from Sweden October 26, 2001

I went to a chiropractor who manipulated my neck. That gave me problems like pins and needles in my right hand and spasms in eyelid. Doing McKenzie's stuff for 3 days reduced this and a few days later it popped in my neck and I'm almost entirely free from the problem.

An Excellent Book

Alan Brown from San Francisco, October 2, 2001

I had a chronic shoulder pain caused by a trapped nerve in my neck. My physical therapist correctly diagnosed it and leant me a copy of this book. After 3 months of seeing 3 different doctors (and getting advice ranging from 'it's a muscle spasm, don't worry it will be gone in a week' to 'it's a repetitive motion injury. Get used to it, it will be around for months') I tried the exercises in this book and was completely recovered in 7 days. If this book were a pill it would be hailed as the greatest breakthrough in neck pain ever made. But it's just a book and most people prefer pills...

First real improvement in years

A reader from Ann Arbor, Michigan, April 7, 2000

A couple of the exercises in this book were recommended to me by a chiropractor. It took a few days to feel any improvement, but I then found myself going for days without any headaches. That may not sound like much, but I'd been having chiropractic adjustments every single week like clockwork for years. It's been three months since I bought this book, and I'm now able to go three weeks or more between adjustments. That's the first real improvement I've ever gotten.

Even more important to me, I only have headaches about once a week, whereas they had become to seem a permanent fixture in my life before I started doing McKenzie's stretching exercises a couple of times a day. That's a lot of benefit from a book that costs 1/3 the cost of a single adjustment.

This book has been instrumental in relieving my neck pain!

Dale Roth from Seattle, USA, March 27, 2000

After several years of increasingly frequent bouts with neck and upper back pain, I finally went to a physical therapist to find some relief. During the few weeks she treated me, she loaned me a copy of this book and told me to practice the exercises in it.

The exercises were so successful in relieving my pain that I bought my own copy of the book and have made them a regular part of my daily routine. They have proven themselves time and time again to be a preventative measure against recurring pain. I can't tell you how thankful I am to have found this book!
